Meet Scotty Boe
I was introduced to woodworking at a young age, and since then I’ve had the opportunity to study and experiment with a breadth of materials and tools. Building and design are the elements connecting every line of work I’ve pursued.
In 2013, I got a formal introduction to furniture making through a position at Chapel Arts in Vancouver. It was a hands-on, head-first dive into the craft, and it opened up to me a wider world of design languages, influences, and philosophies.
My job granted me full access to the production facilities for my own projects, and it was during this time that I began to refine my approach to building furniture and produce pieces outlining the tenets of my personal aesthetic.
In 2020, I left my position as shop foreman of an island based company to start my own business, launching Your Friend Custom Furniture.
Since then I’ve continued to refine my aesthetic, explore new techniques, and collaborate with some truly inspiring clients.
I think the objects you surround yourself with should be meaningful, beautiful, and worth passing on to the next generation. Heirlooms don’t come off a production line—they come from the builder’s personal engagement with the materials, the tools, and the client’s vision. That demands minute attention to detail and total devotion to craftsmanship.
As a lifelong student of the craft, those qualities are at the core of what I do.
If you’d like me to build something unique for your space, drop me a line. I’d love to hear what you have in mind, and to help you to create something new—and totally irreplaceable.
